Douglas Fire In Stanislaus National Forest Grows To 89 Acres

Sponsored by:

Tuolumne County, CA — A lightning caused fire that ignited last month in the Stanislaus National Forest is up to 89 acres.

It is situated in an isolated area, south of the Douglas Picnic area off Highway 108, and about 15 miles outside of Kennedy Meadows. Firefighters are allowing it to burnout naturally, where possible. 36 firefighters are assigned to the incident. Due to some recent increased winds, growth was notably evident on the southwest flank of the fire. Some backfires were purposefully lit to prepare for upcoming fire spread. Firefighters are facing challenges like the steep and rugged terrain, dead trees and falling rocks.

A Forest Closure Order is in effect on Forest Road 6N40Y, starting 300 ft. south of its intersection with the Middle Fork of the Stanislaus River, and continuing 1.5 miles to the southwest. It also includes all areas ½ mile south and southeast of the 6N40Y road closure.

Cooperating agencies include CAL Fire, Caltrans, Tuolumne County Air Pollution Control District, Bennett Juniper Caretakers, Kennedy Meadows Resort and Dodge Ridge.  The fire started on July 31.
