Caltrans Plans, Beginning Aug. 13
Sonora, CA — A slew of Caltrans crews will be working around the clock on the Mother Lode roads this week, generating numerous travel delays, particularly in the overnights.
Beginning Sunday night, paving on Highway 49/108 in Jamestown between Chicken Ranch Road and eastbound 108 will be setting up at 7 p.m. nightly through 5 a.m. through Friday morning, wreaking 15-minute travel impacts.
Late night paving on Highway 108 Sunday night through Friday morning from 8 p.m. until 5 p.m. will likely generate 15-minute delays between Via Estate/Rancho Poquitos and Draper Mine Road; expect ten-minute waits during the same hours for paving at Peaceful Oak Road.
Too, prepare for 15-minute waits as overnight paving continues Monday night through Friday morning on Highway 49 between and Tuolumne County/Calaveras County line and Angels Creek from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m.
Now some of these paving plans will also generate three overnight ramp closures beginning Sunday night that will occur nightly through Friday morning from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. These are: the northbound Highway 49/downtown Sonora ramp, located about two miles west of Lime Kiln Road/South Washington Street; the eastbound Highway 108/Mono Way off-ramp; also the westbound Highway 108/Phoenix Lake Road off-ramp.
On Highway 108, daytime guardrail work is slated Tuesday through Friday between the end of the eastbound passing lane and Cavalieri Road from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. that may snarl travel for ten minutes at a time.
No overnight closures are planned this week at the Highway 120 James E Roberts Bridge by Lake Don Pedro as renovations there continue; however, the customary 24/7 automated traffic controls remain in place at both ends of the bridge span that create ten-minute traffic stops.
Night And Day Highway 4 Delays
Along Highway 4, overnight work will set some travelers back at least ten minutes. Look for cone zones Sunday night through Friday morning between the Murphys Grade Road undercrossing and Angels Creek Bridge from 7 p.m. until 8 a.m. as a striping crew works along that stretch. Expect similar waits beginning Monday night, when striping will be underway on Highway 4 between Highway 49 and Vallecito Road through Friday morning from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m.; paving will also be going on during the same overnights between the old Highway 4 connector just west of Six Mile Road and Ansil Davis Road from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m.
Daytime ten-minute traffic stops are back on Highway 4 every weekday between Upper Moran Road and the Calaveras Big Trees State Park entrance from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. The drainage work being done is part of an overall project that will install retaining walls for sediment control, improve culverts and drainage, and re-construct roadside shoulders along that half-mile segment, scheduled for completion in the fall.
Shoulder work, also planned every weekday on Highway 4 between Pennsylvania Gulch and Apple Blossom roads from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. should not create any travel impacts.
On Highway 26 in Valley Springs crews are scheduled every weekday to continue work on the traffic signal project in the turn lanes and shoulder areas at Gee Lane and County View Drive from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. but Caltrans does not anticipate any motorist delays there this week. Nor should there be during utility work planned along the shoulder of Highway 12 on Monday between Wards Avenue and Southworth Road from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m.
