Yosemite, CA — Yosemite National Park reports that that hundreds of lightning strikes have occurred over recent days from thunderstorms, resulting in multiple fires.

10 fires have been located to this point, and all but one are under an acre in size. The lone incident of notable impact is the Empire Fire, which is now 309 acres. It is situated approximately one mile south of the Bridalveil Campground, west of Bridalveil Creek drainage, and east of Alder Creek drainage. Click here to view a map of the Empire Fire

There are no threats to infrastructure or trails at this time, and fire officials are monitoring the growth and fire activity, and plan to let it burn out naturally, as much as possible, to improve ecosystem health. The fire is visible in the high country and can be seen from multiple viewpoints off Glacier Point Road. Park officials add that the drift smoke may impact Bridalveil Campground.
