Angels Camp Council Member Resigns, Leaving Board A Seat To Fill

Sponsored by:

Angels Camp, CA — The City of Angels today announced the resignation of one of its council members, effective immediately.

Susan Rudolph, who began her term in January of this year apparently resigned for personal reasons that were not disclosed. Her resignation was effective immediately, according to City Administrator Clerk-Treasurer Mary Kelly.

Kelly explains that the council must fill the open slot on the five-member board within 60 days, per government code. Of course, she adds, it is important to fill the position as soon as possible in order to avoid two-two ties on any upcoming significant votes, although she notes with relief there is still time before this year’s budget decisions are being made..

“So what the City is doing is that I am going to put the [job] posting at the post office and at the [City] website, requesting those interested in the position to send a letter of interest to me at City Hall and then the council will interview the qualified candidates,” Kelly states.

In the unlikely event that an appointee does not come out of these efforts, a special election, something Kelly does not remember yet ever being necessary, would then be required through the Calaveras County elections office.

Qualified candidates, according to Kelly, must be a registered voter over the age of 18 and an Angels Camp resident for at least six months. Like the other sitting council members, the new appointee will earn a monthly $300 stipend.
