An Evening with Author and Poet James Ragan

Sponsored by:

The Gold Rush Writers’ Conference, for the first time ever, will open to the public its featured guest speaker event featuring internationally acclaimed and award-winning author and poet James Ragan.

Sally Kaplan, Co-Director of the Gold Rush Writers’ Conference was Thursday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

According to Kaplan, Ragan is the author of 8 books that have been translated into 15 languages. He is the recipient of countless awards, including three Fulbright Professorships, two Honorary Doctorates, and the Emerson Poetry Prize to name just a few. Ragan will speak about his work and recite original poems.

In addition, there will be an open mic reading by Gold Rush Writers’ Conference participants, followed by an informal cash bar gathering at the hotel bar with the band, IT’S ALL GOOD.

This special public event is made possible by a generous grant from Calaveras Community Foundation and will be capped at 36 people. Admission is only $5 per person in advance and $10 (cash only) at the door if not sold out. Dessert and coffee is included.

This takes place inside of the Hotel Leger Ballroom in Mokelumne Hill on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 7:30 PM.

Gold Rush Writers’ Conference was founded in 2005 by New York Times best-selling author and Mokelumne Hill resident Antoinette May with the help of a dedicated group of fellow writers. The goal of the Gold Rush Writers’ Conference is to provide creative writers of all levels a chance to participate one-on-one with established professionals through workshops, lectures, panels and readings.

In January 2017, Kaplan, writer/producer with Backcountry Pictures, came on board with the goal of widening its appeal.

Kaplan states, “For nearly twelve years, the Gold Rush Writer’s Conference has been a bit of secret gem for those who already know about it or heard about it word-of-mouth. This year, we’d like to bring the Conference ‘out of hiding,’ and share its riches of knowledge from our attending world-class authors with a wider public.”

For more information and to register for the conference, please visit: http://www.goldrushwriters.com/ or call Sally Kaplan at 310 927-6929.

The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard every weekday morning at 6:45, 7:45 and 8:45 on AM 1450 and FM 102.7 KVML.
