Supervisors To Schedule Appeal Date For Don Pedro Dollar General

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors will discuss several matters at tomorrow’s first meeting of December.

The Supervisors will set a time and place to hear an appeal of the planning commission’s decision last month to deny construction of a Dollar General Store in the Lake Don Pedro area. The commission voted 5-1 to oppose the plan, citing that the project could be detrimental to the community. The Don Pedro Market has been notably against the project arguing that the small community of 3,000 would be unable to sustain two similar type general stores.  Meeting documents indicate that the appeal will likely be scheduled for either January 3 or 17 in the Don Pedro High School Gym, starting at 6pm.

The Supervisors will also vote to approve an official employment agreement with David Gonzalves to be the county’s new Community Resources Agency Director, effective January 3. He is slated to take over for outgoing director Bev Shane. Gonzalves was the top finalist among 22 candidates. He currently serves as the Director of Development Services for the City of Merced. Gonzalves will be paid $152,590 annually, plus benefits.

The Board will also continue the discussion about whether it would like to hire H.T. Harvey and Associates as the Biologist of Record for consultation on natural resource related matters.

In addition, the county leaders will hear an update on the local tree mortality efforts. This includes details regarding last week’s announcement from CAL Fire that Tuolumne County will receive $2.3-million for a dozen projects.

Tuesday’s meeting starts at 9am.
