Yosemite Will Ignite Additional Acres In Mariposa Grove Project

Sponsored by:

Yosemite, CA — With 75 acres already completed, Yosemite National Park officials plan to continue ignitions of the Mariposa Grove prescribed fire project this weekend.

An additional 55 acres is anticipated to burn on Saturday and Sunday. The total project is 137 acres. After ignition there will be 7-10 days of active burn down. Smoke will be visible near the Wawona area within the park. Yosemite officials report there are favorable weather conditions over the next several days which should reduce smoke impacts. A smoke management plan has been submitted to the Mariposa County Air Pollution Control District, and a burn permit has been issued. Yosemite officials report that a smoke monitor will be placed in nearby communities. The park is taking advantage of the current closure of the Mariposa Grove, due to a restoration project, to conduct the burn.
