Filing Window Approaches For November Election

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Candidates will soon head to the elections office to file paperwork needed to run for seats on the Tuolumne Utilities District, various other special districts and school boards.

Tuolumne County Clerk and Auditor Controller Debi Bautista reports that the filing window for the November General Election will open on Monday, July 18 and continue through Friday, August 12. In the event that an incumbent is not running for a seat, the deadline will be extended until Wednesday, August 17.

It is fairly easy to get on the ballot for most special district and school board races. You simply need to live in the district and fill out the required paper work. The exception is the Tuolumne County Board of Education seats, which also require candidates to file 20 valid signatures of county residents.

Taking a glance at some of the higher profile races, T.U.D. will have three seats on the ballot, and they are currently held by John Maciel, Kent Johnson and Ron Kopf. The Twain Harte Community District will have four seats up for election, and they are held by Jim Johnson, Richard Knudson, Gary Sipperley and Bill McManus. The Tuolumne County Board of Education will have five open seats, and they are currently held by Don Rolle, Jo von Hermann, Juilanna Feriani, Linda Millhollin and Ian Morcott.
