Sponsored by:

At 12:31 PM, Doppler Radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Pinecrest, about nineteen miles southwest of Sonora Pass. This storm was nearly stationary.

Half inch hail and winds in excess of 30 mph will be possible with this storm.

Additionally, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the Sierra Nevada above 10,500 feet, until 11 PM this evening.

According to the National Weather Service, the total snow accumulation will range from two to four inches above 10,500 feet. Isolated locations could see as much as eight inches of snow. A dusting of snow is possible just below 10,000 feet. This may affect Highway 120 Tioga Pass in Yosemite National Park.

The main impact is rapidly changing weather conditions for hikers in the Sierra Nevada above 10,500 feet Hikers should prepare for winter like conditions. Both the John Muir Trail and the Pacific Crest Trail will be affected.

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered high elevation roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving.
