County Moving Forward With Columbia Airport Improvements
Columbia, CA — Construction bids are being requested for what is anticipated to be a roughly $1.4-million project at the Columbia Airport.
As part of the five-year Airport Capital Improvement Plan, the county is looking to rehabilitate Taxiways B and C. Planning has been underway for two years, and it is expected to be the first of many construction projects designed to bring the airport’s failing infrastructure up to date. Tuolumne County Airports Manager Benny Stuth noted at today’s Board of Supervisors meeting that Taxiways B and C represent around 30% of the airport movement surfaces and provides access to roughly half of the airport’s hangars and fixed base operators.
The FAA has agreed to fund 90% of the project with the state and county covering the rest. The county’s match is estimated to be somewhere from $70,000 – $111,000, depending on final bids. The Supervisors voted 5-0 this morning approve the plans and specifications and to accept construction bids through May 5th. The project will likely get underway in late July and should be done by late September.
