Update at 1:55 p.m.: CAL Fire Emily Kilgore reports that the structure in the 5500 block of Amos Lane near Pettinger Road, between Highways 12 and 26, in the Valley Springs area of Calaveras County has been contained. She added that it was a residential structure that caught fire, but what ignited it remains under investigation. There is no word on the total damage to the structure or whether anyone was inside the home when the flames broke out. Crews will continue to mop up for about an hour. Update at 1 p.m.: Fire crews are making progress on a structure fire in the 5500 block of Amos Lane near Pettinger Road, between Highways 12 and 26, in the Valley Springs area of Calaveras County. The thick black smoke that could be seen billowing into the sky has subsided. CAL Fire reports that flames broke out in a structure, but there is no word on what type of building. Some of the flames spread to nearby grass but crews were able to quickly extinguish the blaze at a small spot. Crews are beginning to mop up and what ignited the fire is under investigation.

CAL Fire spokesperson Emily Kilgore tells Clarke Broadcasting that crews are actively working a structure fire, but what type of building is unknown at this time. She added that some flames spread to nearby grass, but crews were able to extinguish it at a small spot fire. Additional resources have been called to the scene.
