Sonora, CA — You only have two days left to give your opinions on the draft environmental impact report (EIR) for the Tuolumne County General Plan update.

The General Plan will guide future growth and development, which must be consistent with it, in the county for the next 25 years.  Deputy Community Resources Agency Director Mike Laird indicates that the draft EIR addresses potential adverse effects that may result from adopting the General Plan Update. The public review period ends Friday, Feb 5 at 3 p.m. The next step, according to Laird, who states, “In a perfect world, we respond to the comments in writing and package those as a final EIR.  Then we can take the entire project to the Board of Supervisors for approval. However, if there are complex environmental issues that are involved, we might have to do additional studies and other things until we can complete the final EIR.”

Laird says there have been 15 comments submitted to date. Comments can be mailed or drop off to the Community Resources Agency at the county building at 2 South Green Street in Sonora or email to apaszkowski@co.tuolumne.ca.us. Laird notes the goal is to bring to final EIR draft to the board in May or June.
