Butte Fire Debris Clears Hurdle

Sponsored by:

Mountain Ranch, CA — Calaveras County officials report that burn debris removal on properties charred by the Butte Fire flames has hit the 40% mark — even with the recent wintery weather slowing the process.

As of Tuesday, Jan. 19, crews had cleared debris from 334 of the 817 properties in the removal program and household hazardous waste from 733 dwellings. County officials want to remind the public to use caution in the burn scar area, as there is large equipment near and on the roadways as work continues seven-days-a-week, weather permitting.  Additionally, there is no long-term schedule available for work on specific properties.

Of note, those who missed signing up for the property owners Right-of-Entry (ROE) program, will get another chance, according to county officials, who indicate that additional properties will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
