Update: Rock Fall In Calaveras County

Sponsored by:

Update at 5:15 p.m.: Caltrans reports that a crew has removed the boulder from the roadway and traffic is moving freely once again. Spokesperson Skip Allum says that there were no injuries or property damage involved in the rock fall.

Original Post at 3:30 p.m.: Wilseyville, CA – The CHP has put out a motorist alert on Highway 26 as a large boulder has fallen onto the roadway blocking a lane and creating a traffic hazard.

The CHP says a driver called to report that a rock is blocking the westbound lane of the highway at the Woodhouse Mine Road intersection west of Wilseyville.  Officers are heading to the scene to assess the road hazard, according to CHP spokesperson Rebecca Myers, who adds, “It depends on how big the boulder is.  If our officer gets out there and can move it, he’ll move it.  If not, we’ll have to put up flares and set up traffic control until Caltrans can get a tractor out there and move it.”

There is no estimated time yet of how long it may take to remove the rock.  A county road crew is also headed to the scene to assist.
