T.U.D. May Drop Water Restrictions
Sonora, CA — Citing that district customers have recently reduced water use by a much higher level than the state mandate, T.U.D. will decide Tuesday whether to end the current water use fines and “mandatory” restrictions.
Meeting documents show that T.U.D. customers have reduced usage by 35% from June through October, and the state mandate is 24%. During the winter months there is typically less water used due to a drop in the irrigation of lawns, so it becomes more difficult to conserve. As long as T.U.D. customers use the traditional average amount from November to February, the district will remain over the 24% collective average that needs to be maintained through early next year.
The district would still ask customers to “use water wisely” but transition from Stage III mandatory water restrictions to the less severe Stage II conservation measures.
Pinecrest Lake is currently at 52% of capacity, which is 111% of the historical average for the date. Lyons Reservoir is at 44% capacity, and 94% of the historical average.
