Tuolumne County Recognized For Innovation
Sonora, CA — The California State Association of Counties is recognizing Tuolumne County for its swift response to the drought.
CSAC has a statewide program that honors innovation in county government, and it is designed to showcase local efforts that can be replicated statewide. At today’s Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors meeting, Graham Knaus, representing CSAC, announced that 250 programs were submitted to the competition, and Tuolumne County was one of eight selected. It is for the county’s ongoing program that responds to residents with well failures. Temporary water supplies, often tanks, are brought in for customers impacted. From there, many customers have been added to permanent connections via the Tuolumne Utilities District.
Knaus stated at the supervisors meeting, “What’s most remarkable to me is how lightning fast your county has turned it around in terms of activating those connections and ensuring that water supply will continue, so that folks can remain in their homes. In as little as five to seven days, I’m going from a dry well to having water available. It’s outstanding, and certainly a model for the whole state to look at.”
CSAC is an organization that advocates for county government before the California legislature and the federal government. The group also educates the public about the value and need for county government programs and services.
