Berryhill Very Concerned About Dying Trees

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA — Mother Lode Senator Tom Berryhill is calling for the Governor to issue a State of Emergency declaration due to the high number of dead and dying trees in California.

Berryhill cites a recent Forest Service report stating that over 6 million dead trees were recently spotted across 526,000 acres in the state. A letter from Berryhill asks Governor Jerry Brown to expedite the necessary funding and support needed to remove dead and dying trees in afflicted areas. The Senator notes that bark beetle infestations and the four year drought have left the forest in ripe shape for catastrophic wildfires. The county supervisors have already declared a local State of Emergencies due to dying trees in Tuolumne, Mariposa, Madera and Fresno counties.
