Flash Flood Watch Issued For Sierra Nevada
The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for the Sierra Nevada for today from 1 pm to 6 pm.
Slow moving thunderstorms with heavy rainfall are forecast to develop over the Sierra early this afternoon, and expand north and westward into Shasta County during the afternoon and evening.
This could lead to hazardous travel, mudslides, frequent and dangerous lightning and fire starts. Fortunately, rainfall associated with the storms will likely help limit the spread of any new fire starts.
More thunderstorms could develop tonight and Thursday.
Storms have already produced some heavy rainfall over the past several days with localized flash flooding.
The Watch indicates that the ingredients are there to create storms with heavy rainfall and flash flooding, but there’s not a guarantee those storms will develop.
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
