Angels Camp To Cover Water Saving Rebates
Angels Camp, CA — Water efficiency rebate program incentives for residents will be front and center on the City of Angels Camp City Council’s regular agenda this evening.
Following Governor Jerry Brown’s executive order this past spring and the emergency regulations adopted by the Water Resources Control Board, the city established its own emergency water conservation plan. Under it, current water use restrictions limit outdoor irrigation with potable water to two days a week on a rotating odd-even address system with punitive actions for multiple infraction “water abusers.” The city’s plan also covers outreach education efforts. Among them; providing water saving tips; home water audit forms; lists of low-water and drought resistant plants; gray water systems resources; and free conservation kits that include energy-efficient showerheads and faucet aerators.
Tonight, the council looks to approve incorporating a proposed rebate program component, making city water customers eligible for a combined $150 maximum rebate, beginning July 15, for certain eligible conservation-minded devices purchased for existing residences. Among the devices that would be covered under the program are smart irrigation controllers and efficiency upgrades, and high-efficiency clothes washers and toilets. The rebates would be applied via billing statement credit adjustments.
In other business, the council also expects to reappoint four commissioners to three-year service terms; they are Vice Chair Susan Rudolph and Commissioner John Broeder of the Planning Commission; and Commissioners Anne Forrest and Lee Croletto of the Angels Camp Museum Board. All had submitted letters requesting renewals and, according to the meeting documents, no other applications were submitted for the positions.
Additionally, Cal-Waste Community Outreach Coordinator Marybeth Ospital is scheduled to make a video presentation.
Tonight’s meeting, which will be held at the city’s fire department building (1404 Vallecito Road), will open to the public at 6 p.m. A closed session is scheduled at 5 p.m. to address pre-budget labor negotiations involving police, fire and other miscellaneous at-will personnel with City Administrator Michael McHatten. According to the staff’s administrative report, a subsequent budget workshop is slated for July 21 in advance of the council meeting.
