County To Discuss Jail Plan

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — How to pay for the construction of the future Tuolumne County Jail will be up for discussion at Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting.

The county has received a $20 million state grant through SB 1022 to go towards the $36-million project. Meeting documents note that the county is “guardedly optimistic” that $13-million will also come via leftover AB 900 state grant money. This topic, and various funding alternatives, will be talked about at the meeting. The jail will be built at the Law and Justice Center site off Old Wards Ferry Road.

In addition, the Supervisors will hear an update on the drought, and vote whether to continue the local state of emergency. Stanislaus National Forest Supervisor Jeanne Higgins will also be on hand to give a presentation on the upcoming fire season, and other forest happenings. Tuesday’s meeting starts at 9am in the Supervisors meeting room.
