McClintock: Trade Promotion Authority

Sponsored by:

Washington D.C. — Local Congressman Tom McClintock supports the Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) and shares details about the current situation in congress. President Obama is seeking to reinstate the TPA as the administration continues to work out global deals. One global trade agreement closest to completion, the Trans-Pacific Partnership, would cover a number of Asian and North American countries with Pacific Ocean coastlines, including Japan, Canada and the United States.

McClintock was KVML’s “Newsmaker of the Day”.

Representatives, both Democrats and Republicans, are against renewing the authority the TPA has for different reasons.

Congressman McClintock shares the history, his views, and the problems with the TPA in his newest myMotherLode blog. The Associated Press outlines, “The past several presidents have had so-called trade promotion authority, under which Congress may vote yes or no on proposed international deals, but not amend them.”

Statements about the TPA from Paul Ryan, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, were featured as a newsmaker story here. Congressman Ryan’s statements were the Republican response to Monday’s Presidential statement here.

The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard every weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:45, 7:45 and 8:45 AM.
