Updated: HWY 108 Fatal Crash Results In Arrest

Update 3:30 p.m.:   The CHP reports the two vehicles involved in the fatal crash on Highway 108 were a Mercedes and a Chevy sedan. The head-on wreck has resulted in an arrest.  CHP spokesperson Nick Norton says, “The driver of the Mercedes, a female in her twenties who is from the Bay Area, has been arrested for DUI and manslaughter.”

The CHP also reports the deceased male victim in his seventies, who was driving the Chevy, and his three passengers are from the Central Valley. The passengers, one male and two females, suffered major injuries; two were flown and one was taken by ground ambulance to Modesto area hospitals.  The passenger in the Mercedes, a female, also in her twenties, sustained major injuries and was also flown to Modesto, while the driver suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Sonora Regional Medical Center.

Updated: 12:10pm: The CHP reports that all lanes of Highway 108 are back open. Details surrounding the crash are still under investigation. CHP Officer Nick Norton reports that one of the vehicles had crossed over the double yellow lines.

Updated 11:55am: One traffic lane of Highway 108 is open at this time. Continue to expect delays. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Updated 11:30am: The CHP now reports that two victims were taken away by air ambulance, one by ground ambulance, and one has passed away. CHP Officer Nick Norton says traffic is currently at a standstill. Avoid the area this morning. What caused the crash remains under investigation. It is near the area known as Keystone Ranch.

Updated 11:10am The CHP reports that one way traffic control can be expected on Highway 108 west of O’byrnes Ferry Road for an extended period this morning.

The CHP is on scene of a fatal accident. Two vehicles were involved. The CHP notes that two other victims have been flown to hospitals outside of the area. We’ll pass along more information as it becomes available.
