Sexual Offender Released Early

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County District Attorney’s Office reports that the California Department of Corrections has released a sex offender who only served a quarter of his prison sentence.

In November of 2014 Nathaniel Sheppard was convicted of failing to register as a sex offender, and was sentenced to 16 months in prison. It was noted that credit for good behavior would make him eligible for release after eight months, serving at least 50% of the sentence.

The DA’s Office now reports that it received notice from the state that Sheppard was released yesterday, after only serving four months. The DA’s Office says there was no reason given for the early release. The CDCR has been implementing several early release programs in an effort to reduce overcrowding, which is resulting in inadequate medical care.
