Humanities Building Moving Forward

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA – Sonora High School is hoping to have the renovation of its Humanities building completed by the start of next school year.

The School Board has approved over $4.5 million in contracts for various aspects of the overall work. Superintendent Dr. Mike McCoy says WLC Construction Services will manage the construction, and it should get underway within the next month. Funding will come from the Measure J Bond money. As part of the construction, some underground utility work, and site prep, will be carried out in anticipation of future projects.

Dr. McCoy notes that the track and field project, and planned aquatics center, still remain on hold due to litigation. He says a hearing was held last week in Tuolumne County Superior Court, in which the school district requested a demurrer. By legal definition, a demurrer would acknowledge that some of the plaintiffs accusations may be true, but they are not significant enough to prevail in the lawsuit. Dr. McCoy says the district hopes to hear back from the Judge, within the next week or so.
