Feedback For Forest

Sonora, CA — What you want to see in the Stanislaus National Forest it the target of a 30-day comment period regarding the Hemlock Landscape Restoration project.

An open house is being held November 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Calaveras Ranger District Office will kick off the comment period.  On hand will be information about the project, including a scoping package outlining the proposed plans for the area.

Forest Service spokesperson Rebecca Garcia says, “We hope that people will take a look at how it affects their area.  Some people live nearby or it may be a popular area that they visit.  We would like people to offer feedback on what they want to see on that landscape.”

The Forest Service notes the purpose of the project is to improve ecological resilience of the landscape through producing different forest stand structures and densities by reducing the forest’s susceptibility to insect, disease, and drought related mortality.  Click here to view the scoping package, maps and details on how to comment.

Forest officials report another 30-day comment period will be held in May 2015, with a final decision expected in October.
