Dual DUI Task Force
Angels Camp, CA – The Angels Camp Police Department has teamed up with Sonora Police to start a new “Avoid the 2” DUI Task Force. The “2” stands for drunk and drugged driving, which accounted for 802 deaths statewide. The word “avoid,” according to Angels Camp Police, was used to send the message that you can avoid being arrested if you do not drink or use drugs and drive. The task force will be funded through a $119,000 California Office of Traffic Safety grant awarded to the Angels Camp Police Department.
“Despite our aggressive, proactive enforcement efforts related to DUI,” says Angels Camp Police Chief Todd Fordahl, “there are still folks out there that make the bad choice to get behind the wheel. Prescription, narcotic, and marijuana drug abuse are on the rise, and anyone that makes the decision to drive while impaired has the potential to affect the entire community. This grant will help us deal with those issues.”
Fordahl says officers from both departments will staff DUI/Driver License Checkpoints and roving DUI saturation patrols in both Calaveras and Tuolumne Counties. The task force will also target repeat DUI offenders with Warrant/Probation Sweeps and Court Sting Enforcement Operations. The latter will focus on those who drive away from a courthouse after having their license suspended. In addition, motorists can expect to see special DUI campaigns during the winter and summer holidays.
