Montgomery Fire Contained

Mariposa County, CA — The Montgomery Fire in the Stanislaus National Forest is 100% contained at 79 acres. The flames broke out late Sunday afternoon in an isolated area near Montgomery Gulch.

Stanislaus National Forest Spokesperson Veronica Garcia says crews are still mopping up in the area.  “What the firefighters are doing is ensuring that the debris does not roll across the fire lines and to extinguish all smoldering materials along the fire’s edge,” says Garcia.  She adds after that crews will patrol the area for several days checking for hotspots.

Air resources traveling to the Meadow Fire in Yosemite National Park initially spotted the flames and alerted forest fire officials. No homes or structures were considered in danger. An investigation is ongoing as to what sparked the blaze.
