A Few Arrests Over Labor Day Weekend

Sponsored by:

The reports are in for the CHP Labor Day Maximum Enforcement Period.

Sonora Area CHP Spokesperson Nick Norton says six Driving Under the Influence arrests were made. The six arrests occurred between 6pm Friday and 11:59pm on Monday. Last year there were five arrests. Norton says “There were no major accidents that I saw when looking through the reports when I got in this morning.”

San Andreas CHP Officer Rebecca Myers says over the weekend there were three accidents with minor injuries and three DUI arrests. Twenty-one citations were also issued by the San Andreas office.

Numbers for the state are not available yet. A report by Triple-A said they expected the weekend would have the highest number of Californians traveling since the recession. The estimate was nearly four million travelers on the roadways statewide.

The Labor Day maximum enforcement period coincides with the ongoing national drunk driving enforcement crackdown, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” Over Labor Day in 2013, 49 people were killed in California crashes, a 40 percent increase from the same period in 2012. In addition, more than 1,200 arrests were made for DUI.

The CHP asks for your help in reporting drunk drivers by calling 911. They suggest you report a description of the vehicle, the license plate number, location, and direction of travel.
