Robotic Knee Surgery

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — It is called MAKOplasty® Partial Knee Resurfacing. The Center for Joint Replacement at Sonora Regional Medical Center (SRMC) is now offering the surgery.

During the surgery, a physician is armed with RIO®, a highly advanced, surgeon-controlled robotic arm system. The Medical Center is the first in the region to get this technology.

Health Officials say MAKOplasty is a minimally invasive treatment option for adults living with early to mid-stage osteoarthritis that has not yet progressed to all three compartments of the knee.

SRMC Spokesperson Gail Witzlsteiner says, “The Physician is able to do very precise surgery so that a partial knee is almost 100 percent like your existing knee.”

Health Officials say the surgery gives patients a new option with less joint damage.

“It will mean faster recovery, less pain and having a range of motion that they would have had naturally with their own knee,” says Witzlsteiner. She adds the knee repairs will last for 15 years.

You can “Meet the Robot”, talk to surgeons and former patients about the surgery at an open house on Tuesday, February 25, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., at the Medical Center. For more information, you can call 536-5020.
