Missing Woman Found Dead

Soulsbyville, CA — An extensive search and rescue effort sadly ended with a woman being found dead in the Willow Springs area of Tuolumne County.

The Sheriff’s Office reports that 56-year-old Lauri Ann Thacker was reported missing on Saturday night from a home she was staying at in the Willow Springs subdivision. Thacker had vision problems, and was being cared for by various family members. She walked away from the residence without anyone’s knowledge. An extensive search picked up at around 7:30pm, and continued until the early morning hours. It started with Sheriff’s Deputies and later included the Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team.

At around 7:30am on Sunday, a resident in the 20000 block of Caylor Drive spotted what appeared to be a body, located down an embankment in heavy vegetation. The Sheriff’s Office responded and confirmed that it was Thacker. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her cause of death is under investigation, but the Sheriff’s Office notes that it does not suspect there was any type of “foul play” involved.
