Post Office Closing On Hold

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Sonora’s second downtown post office branch has received a reprieve.

As reported earlier, Postal Officials were considering possibly closing the branch office on 83 South Stewart Street due to a lack of customers, and the close proximity of the two downtown stations. However, that decision has been postponed.

Postal Spokesperson Augustine Ruiz says, “Right now everything is temporarily on hold, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be revisiting it (closing the office) in the near future.”

Some Sonora residents have received surveys in the mail regarding their use of the station. Ruiz asks if you got a questionnaire, to please fill it out and mail it back to the postal service.

Ruiz says, “We are still evaluating our service needs in the area and we want to make sure we are making the right decisions for our customers.”

Ruiz adds a couple of workers would be relocated if the facility were closed. The final decision on the closure will be made in Washington D.C.
