Rim Fire Contained By Friday?

Sponsored by:

Tuolumne County, CA — Incident Command says Rim Fire containment may be pushed back. Fire Officials had set Friday September 20th at Noon as a target for full containment of the flames, but that could change.

Incident Command Spokesperson Michelle Jimeneza-Holtz stresses, “Our Incident Commander is on the ground assessing it. We may not know definitively whether it’s fully contained on Friday or whether it’s going to be pushed back a couple of days.”

Right now, the Rim Fire remains 84% contained and 256,895 acres. I.C. says the flames are still spreading slowly in the rocky Yosemite and Emigrant Wilderness areas. Mop-up operations continue in the areas where the fire activity has quieted down.

Crews still need to make repairs to 155 miles of suppression line. Already 66 miles of dozer line have been repaired, two miles of hand line, 19 miles of road repair, and 52 miles of wood chipping. 10 firefighter injuries have been reported since the start of the fire on August 17. 1,371 firefighters are on scene today and no structures are threatened. The total cost to fight the blaze is up to $116.1 million.
