Williams Guilty Of Felony Child Abuse
Sonora, CA — A guilty plea was submitted to the court in the felony child abuse case against Shaheed Jameel Hassan Williams. Williams is 25 and grew up in Tuolumne County. Williams plead guilty to three charges at the pretrial court hearing Friday morning, August 8. He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
The four month old child was taken to a local hospital on June 1st. According to Tuolumne County District Attorney Michael Knowles the child was in a coma for four days at a Bay Area Hospital. The cause was head trauma. The child has been released from the hospital and is in the care and custody of the mother. The boy has suffered permanent paralysis from the incident. DA Knowles also says the Mother is hopeful the boy will continue to recover from his injuries.
The sentencing hearing is scheduled for September 19th. Williams will face serving time for each of the three counts he plead guilty to consecutively. The outcome of the maximum sentencing of the three abuse charges would put him in prison for life, with out any possibility of parole for a maximum 14 years and 4 months. It is up to the judge to determine the length of time Williams will serve for each charge. It was noted that if the baby dies due to complications from these injuries, Williams could be charged with murder for up to three years from this incident. After three years the charge of murder could still be brought if the initial injury is found to be the cause.
Williams also has prior auto theft felony and evading an officer charges in stanislaus county.
