Deadline Passes For Yosemite Gardens

Sponsored by:

Jamestown, CA — Tuolumne County will decide whether to extend the deadline for the Yosemite Gardens group to pay the county for the Jamestown Mine property.

It is one of the items on Tuesday’s agenda. The group had initially stated that they would have the deal closed by July 31, but are asking for additional time due to an unexpected illness to one of the key financial partners. The group, led by Vincent Estell, is asking for the deadline to be extended by 2-4 weeks. The County Supervisors will vote Tuesday whether to extend the escrow deadline to August 30th.

Yosemite Gardens Park, Inc. is planning to purchase the mine site for $379K. In doing so, the county would avoid paying future water monitoring costs, which would total $1.4 million over the next 13 years. The county would also avoid any future liability with the property. The group plans to construct ball fields, garden space, lodging, shopping space, and other amenities. If the Supervisors deny the extension, the agreement would be terminated and the county would begin the process again of requesting proposals for the site.

The Supervisors will also weigh in on whether to send a letter to Calaveras County about their upcoming General Plan Update. Tuesday’s meeting will begin at 9am in the Supervisors meeting room. It will be streamed live in the multimedia section of myMotherLode.com.
