Update at 3:45 p.m.: A section of O’Brynes Ferry Road has been shut down to allow tow trucks to remove the wreckage after a dump truck hit two pickups and went down an embankment, flipping over.  The crash happened around 1:15 p.m. just before the bridge on the Jamestown, Tuolumne County side.

CHP spokesperson Steve Machado details that 35-year-old Andrew Lipscomb of Kellogg, Idaho was driving a dump truck hauling a utility trailer northbound on O’Byrnes Ferry Road near Old O’Brynes Ferry Road. He lost control of the trailer as he was rounding a curve. It hit a Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by 39-year-old Matthew Martin of Copperopolis and then struck another pickup driven by 52-year-old Kimbra Carlson of Fallon, Nevada. After that, the dump truck went off the roadway and down an embankment where it flipped over.

Machado says the rainy weather may have contributed to the crash, stating,  “We’re unsure if speed was a factor in this crash. However, the roads were wet at the time and the driver of the dump truck only lost control of the trailer.”

Road closure signs have been posted at the O’Byrnes Ferry Road and Highway 108 intersection. The roadway is shut down from about a half-mile north of the Sierra Conservation Center to the Tuolumne County side of the bridge.

Update at 2:50 p.m.:  The CHP has new details regarding a pickup and dump truck crash on O’Byrnes Ferry Road before on the bridge on the Tuolumne County side, north of Highway 108. Originally, the CHP reported that a pickup went off the roadway down an embankment after hitting a dump truck pulling a trailer, which flipped onto the pickup. CHP spokesperson Steve Machado updates, “It was actually the dump truck hauling a utility trailer that was going a little too fast on the curve and lost control. It hit a pickup and went off the roadway down an embankment and the trailer also flipped onto its side.”

Update at 2:35 p.m.: The CHP reports no injuries in the pickup and dump truck collision on O’Brynes Ferry Road in the Jamestown area that has slowed traffic. Tow trucks are working to remove the wreckage, but travelers are asked to find an alternative route if possible.  Further details on the crash are below.

Original post at 1:44 p.m.: Jamestown, CA — First responders are on the scene of a pickup and dump truck collision on O’Brynes Ferry Road in the Jamestown area that is slowing traffic.

The crash happened on the turn just before the bridge near Old O’Byrnes Ferry Road on the Tuolumne County side, north of Highway 108. The CHP reports that the Dodge Ram pickup truck and a three-axle dump truck pulling a utility trailer collided. The pickup went down an embankment along with the trailer that landed on top of it. The pickup has major damage to the front end and to its side. There are unknown injuries at this time. It is unclear if the wet weather played a role in the wreck. The CHP has called for a heavy-duty tow truck to remove the dump truck and another one with equipment to pull the pickup and trailer up from the embankment.

Travelers will want to avoid the area and take an alternative route if possible, as officers are directing traffic. An update will be provided as soon as new information comes into the newsroom.
