No Review For Sierra Nevada Forest Plan-Project Moves Forward

Sponsored by:

At a briefing in Sacramento Thursday, Agriculture Undersecretary Mark Rey announced he was not going to exercise a discretionary review of the Sierra Nevada Forest Plan. The decision means the controversial forest treatment plan will be implemented.

Forest Chief Dale Bosworth affirmed the plan in November after reviewing over 200 appeals of the project. With the decision, Bosworth directed Regional Forester, Jack Blackwell, to continue to analyse the plan.

A team of forest service specialists will be formed to look into ways the plan can be more aggressive towards fuel removal from the forest. Following the briefing, Blackwell asked that citizens who took part in the appeals process remain engaged in the refinement of the plan´s framework.
