A newspaper reports today that San Francisco school officials misspent and mismanaged tens of millions of dollars during the past 13 years.

A San Francisco Chronicle investigation found that the district raised 337 million dollars through four voter approved bond and tax measures. But nearly all the money is gone and promised improvements were left unfinished or were never started.

Records show the San Francisco Unified School District used as much as 100 million dollars to support a sprawling bureaucracy and to finance projects that ran far over budget.

The newspaper spent six months investigating the district´s spending habits.

Delaine Eastin, the state´s superintendent of public

instruction, called the findings a “grave injustice against the children of San Francisco.´´
