Bridges Still Being Watched

Mass transit officials say they are ready if thousands of San Francisco Bay Area commuters still avoid crossing the big bridges. The FBI alert that terrorists could target West Coast suspension bridges has San Francisco office

workers giving more consideration to trains and ferries. There was a drop of about 71% in bridge traffic after

Governor Gray Davis made the alert public before Friday´s commute. Ferries had increased business but were reported only 60 percent full.

Randy Rentschler of the Bay Area´s Metropolitan Transportation Commission says: “God willing we won´t have to use them in a crisis, but I think it´s a good thing for people to know that …there´s a lot of travel options.´´
