Update: Diamond Fire Along Highway 4 In Calaveras County Grows

Firefighters will continue to construct and strengthen firelines for the next several hours. CAL Fire describes the incident as near Highway 4 and Main Street in Copperopolis.
Update at 5:45 p.m.: CAL Fire reports crews are getting a handle on the Diamond Fire burning in some grass along Highway 4 just west of Horseshoe Road and the Diamond XX subdivision in the Copperopolis area of Calaveras County. It remains 23 acres and 20 percent contained. CAL Fire reports that there are no structures threatened.
Update at 3:35 p.m.: CAL Fire reports that ground crews have a “hoselay” around the perimeter of the Diamond Fire, which is 23 acres and 20 percent contained. The blaze is burning along Highway 4 just west of Horseshoe Road and the Diamond XX subdivision in the Copperopolis area of Calaveras County. Highway 4 is open but traffic is slow going with all the activity in that area. Further details on the fire are below.
Update at 3 p.m.: The Diamond Fire has grown from 20 to 23 acres and CAL Fire details that firefighters have gained 20 percent containment. The flames continue to move at a moderate rate of spread and some structures are threatened, but none have burned, according to CAL Fire dispatch. Highway 4 remains open with slow-moving traffic due to all the activity in the area.

Update at 2:15 p.m.:Â CAL Fire reports that the Diamond Fire burning along Highway 4 just west of Horseshoe Road and the Diamond XX subdivision in the Copperopolis area of Calaveras County has grown to 20 acres. They update that there are now several structures threatened, but say “none have burned.”
Additional resources have been called to the scene. Highway 4 remains open but traffic is slow going and backed up due to fire personnel and equipment.

Update at 1:50 p.m.: CAL Fire is calling the five-acre blaze the “Diamond Fire.” It continues to move at a moderate rate of spread and no structures are threatened.
The flames broke out just before 1 p.m. along Highway 4 just west of Horseshoe Road and the Diamond XX subdivision in the Copperopolis area of Calaveras County. The highway remains open, but it is backed up with CHP officers slowing traffic down in the area as there is plenty of fire personnel and equipment in the area. The CHP has reported that a pickup truck pulling onto the grass shoulder may have sparked the blaze.
Original post at 1:13 p.m.: Copperopolis, CA — Air and ground resources are battling what was first reported as multiple fires along Highway 4 in Calaveras county.
CAL Fire reports that the grass fires just west of Horseshoe Road and the Diamond XX subdivision in the Copperopolis area. The multiple fires have grown into one fire that is five acres in size and moving at a moderate spread. No structures are threatened at this time. The CHP is reporting that the fire may have been started by a pickup truck that pulled off the roadway onto some dry grass and that ignited the fire. An update will be provided as soon as new information comes into the newsroom.
