Bill Targets Drunk Drivers

Assemblyman Tim Leslie is trying to crack down on drunk drivers.
A bill introduced last week would charge convicted drunk drivers a higher vehicle license fee for five years from the date of their conviction. The increased revenue — about $16.3 million — would go directly to the California Highway Patrol’s budget.
Leslie says this would help the state’s budget situation while imposing a tough deterrent to would-be intoxicated motorists.
Nearly 179,000 Californians were arrested last year for DUI.
