Teen Drug Use Remains Steady

More than 10 percent of California’s high school juniors have tried the drug Ecstasy. Use of other drugs, alcohol and tobacco remained steady among high school students.

The results of Attorney General Bill Lockyer’s study, released Friday, measures substance abuse by students in the 7th, 9th and 11th grade during the years 2001 and 2002.

The survey did find declines of drug use in younger teens and a drop in the prevalence of alcohol consumption, and to a lesser extent, cigarette smoking in all surveyed grades, especially 7th grade.

The study has been conducted every two years since 1985.
