Balanced County Budget Goes To Supervisors

County administrator C. Brent Wallace plans to submit a balanced final 2002-03 budget to the Tuolumne County Supervisors for approval tomorrow morning.

Wallace says in his cover letter to the supervisors, that all the gaps of the proposed budget have been filled. A positive economy, with a 13 percent growth in community development fees a notable increase, is one of the reason the county budget is balanced, even though the state has yet to adopt its own budget.

Funding recommendations to several economic development and promotion community groups is also included in the document.

Wallace says funding for the Visitor’s Bureau will stay at last year’s year-end estimated level, and will receive $247,150, the biggest piece of the community group pie.

Wallace says the $9,100 in Transient Occupancy Tax growth be increased to $10,000 and divided between the rodeo and state fair exhibit.

The Central Sierra Arts Council is earmarked to get $50,000, as is the county Economic Development Company. The county Film Commission will receive $60,000, a $40,000 jump in funding from the previous county budget.

The budget public hearing begins tomorrow at 9 a.m. at the county administration building on South Green Street in Sonora.
