Injured Firefighter Returns Home

Sponsored by:

One of the three firefighters injured Sunday when their fire engine rolled off a southern California freeway has returned home.

California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection says 19-year-old firefighter Justin Andrews has been released and flown home Thursday with his mother and CDF officials from Loma Linda University Hospital. He will continue his recovery at home.

Fellow firefighters from the West Point CDF station injured in the crash are still in the hospital.

A CDF news release says doctors have to drain fluid from 26-year-old Westly Gissell’s respiratory tract. He and 34-year-old fire apparatus engineer Tim Valdez remain in fair condition

The probe into why the one-year-old fire engine careened off I-15 in the San Bernardino Mountains continues. 14 similar model CDF fire engines have been pulled from service.
