Cover Apple Ranch Reopens Tuesday

The sweet, fragrant aroma of baking apples and cinnamon will again permeate the air along Cherokee Road beginning at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday morning when Cover´s Apple Ranch reopens.

The Cover family will host a Community Appreciation Day until 6 p.m. Tuesday, providing free samples of their famous baked goods and fresh apple cider.

Ben Cover says there were times when the family didn´t think they´d see this day. “The biggest thing was getting the old place cleaned-up,” Cover says. “That seemed to drag on forever.” He says it wasn´t until the building´s shell was up and complete that the family began to think the rebuild might happen.

Cover says visitors and friends will see a lot of new things at the ranch, including what might just be a Tuolumne County first: A drive thru pie window.

Martha Cover expects all their favorite pies and goodies to be available once again, including the famous Mile High Apple Pie. “Everyone´s anxiously awaiting that,” she says.

The old Cover facility was destroyed in a fire nearly two years ago. Tuesday´s opening marks the first time the pies, turnovers, dumplings and fresh squeezed cider will be served since that September 11, 2000 fire.
