Pland, Supervisors Come Through With Last Minute Plan To Allow Arena To Open On Time

The Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors made a last minute move to ensure the grand opening at the newly built High Country Sports Arena in Tuolumne county will take place this Saturday. Arena officials were told by the Community Development Department that the opening would be delayed if repairs to a nearby railroad crossing and improvements to the facilities parking lot were not made, unless a 16 thousand dollar bond was secured by the proprietors.

After several speakers addressed the dilemma to the Supervisors Tuesday, the Board adjourned for five minutes. When they came back out, Supervisor Dick Pland stated that a private loan would cover the bond, keeping the grand opening on schedule.

Arena supporters contend last minute changes to the plan to repair the railroad crossing by Sierra Railroad officials created the dilemma.
