Bay Area Man Had Huge Weapons Cache

Sponsored by:

An Oakley man has been arrested with what police call a large cache of weapons and explosives – including a 30-caliber, tripod-mounted machine gun.

Eugene Gingras had 13 weapons. He also had booby-trapped explosives, tracer rounds, grenades and armor-piercing bullets in his home when he was picked up late Wednesday.

Police say several of the weapons had been illegally modified to fire automatically. Police and Contra Costa County sheriff´s deputies aided agents from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

Gingras was booked for investigation of being a felon in possession of a firearm and manufacturing and possessing an assault weapon. Bail was set at $250,000. Authorities say Gingras has been collecting the weapons for some time – but there´s no indication he was planning violence.
