Lake Tahoe Pier Expansion Waiting On Report

Sponsored by:

Members of the California-Nevada Tahoe Regional Planning Agency’s governing board are split over continued approval of pier expansion and replacement projects as they wait for a key report on Lake Tahoe’s shore zone.

Tom Quinn is an appointee of former California Governor Davis to the bi-state TRPA board. He says there´s no pier policy for the board to rely on while it waits for the environmental impact report.

Board member Reed Holderman, appointed by California Assembly Speaker Herb Wesson, agrees with Quinn. He says he’s “flying blind” when voting on permits for pier projects. Jim Galloway represents Washoe County, Nevada. He says TRPA´s existing rules should be followed until the shore zone report comes out. He adds that with the existing rules “The floodgates are not wide open for new piers.”
