Snow Helps Open Ski Season Early

Sponsored by:

Attention skiers!

A weekend storm in the Sierra Nevada has left a healthy early-season snow pack. Eighteen new inches of snow have fallen in the Sierras between Yosemite and Lake Tahoe. Ski resort operators are rejoicing.

Boreal, Mount Rose and Mammoth Mountain have all opened for the season. Boreal spokeswoman Jody Churich calls the snow “a dream come true.”

At Dodge Ridge, they are hoping for an early opening as well. Karrie Mathson with Dodge Ridge say they have their fingers crossed. “It all depends on Mother Nature,” Mathson said.

The snowy news is not as rosy for drivers. Chains were mandatory over three Sierra highways earlier in the day Sunday and chains are required on Mother Lode highways as well this morning.
