Bustamante Passed the Class, But Wasn´t There

Sponsored by:

It turns out Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamante passed a course he needed for his degree without ever attending class.

Bustamante left Fresno State in the 1970s, returning 20 years later to complete his degree. But he got credit for a speech class that he never went to.

The chair of the department says he figured Bustamante´s experience as a politician meant he would have earned at least a C based on the numerous speeches he´d delivered during his career.

Officials say it´s not unusual for students to test out of the required course, which means they can pass it without attending.

Bustamante says he doesn´t think he was given special treatment by the university. He finished his degree requirements this spring.
