Woodlot Fire Now Contained

Sponsored by:

Firefighters have contained a 458-acre blaze outside Yosemite National Park. A fire spokeswoman says the fire was contained after several crews of Hotshots arrived from Alaska and around the state. Hotshots are firefighters specifically trained to battle wildfires in rough terrain.

More than 700 firefighters fought the blaze, called the Woodlot Wildfire. The fire started in a wood storage lot inside Tuesday afternoon near El Portal, a small town about two miles from Yosemite´s entrance. The National Park Service uses the lot to store dead trees that have been removed from the park. The fire did not threaten Yosemite or damage any structures. Investigators think sparks from a car or a careless smoker may have ignited the wildfire. Arson was also being investigated as a possibility.
